River-Friendly Business signRiver-Friendly Business Certification Program

The River-Friendly Business Certification Program is designed to help facilities reduce nonpoint source pollution, or pollution that results from stormwater runoff. By reducing this type of pollution, participating businesses help to improve water quality, enhance stream corridors, provide greenspace benefits, and promote the understanding that environmentally sound business campuses are quality campuses. NJWSA implements this program in the North & South Branch and Lower Raritan watersheds.

NJWSA works with each individual business to help tailor the goals and requirements for certification in each of four areas: Water Quality Management, Water Conservation Techniques, Wildlife and Habitat Enhancement, and Education and Outreach. Each business is required to meet 19 baseline standards and complete a number of site-specific actions in order to acheive certification.

The program provides ongoing technical information, support and guidance for implementing environmental projects specific to the unique location, and the resources and needs of the facility.
