Delaware & Raritan Canal Nonpoint Source Loading Study

D&R Canal photo

This is a study to identify the streams and stormwater outfalls that contribute the greatest pollutant loadings in the last 10 miles of the Canal, and design remedial projects.Funding from NJDEP and NJWSA.Project Partner:Franklin Township. This project focuses on a number of priority issues as follows:
  • Protection of the Canal for drinking water supply and recreational uses.
  • Identification and assessment of influent flows to the Canal and their impact on Canal aesthetics, water quality, and drinking water treatment.
  • Development of a nonpoint source pollution management plan for each tributary area with significant pollutant loads, which will include conceptual designs of BMPs and other controls to reduce total suspended solids and associated pollutant loadings to the Delaware and Raritan Canal.
  • Linkage of project results with NJWSAs Watershed Protection Program and Somerset Countys efforts in the watershed, to ensure a long-term commitment to project implementation and other steps necessary to protect the Canal.
