New Jersey residents rely on the groundwater in our aquifers for about 40% of our total potable water supply. This includes the supply to private residential wells, the sole source of drinking water in some rural municipalities. While the Safe Drinking Water Act mandates testing of public water supplies, private well owners are responsible for testing and treating their own water.
